Summer time!

The weather has been nice and we have been volunteering at the local wildlife wildlife sanctuary for the past two days and today we collected a whole range of Raptor and Owl pellets. We have also been to Epping Forest, Hanningfield Reservoir and we are planning to go to Thorndon and Rainham Marshes within the next week or so.

We have also recently brought a set of 3 night vision cameras that we are going to use to watch for local wildlife in our gardens and the results will be posted here.

Hanningfield Reservoir

We had a great day at Hanningfield Reservoir, seeing many waterfowl including:
  • Tufted Ducks
  • Pochards
  • Mallards
  • Mute Swans
  • Black Swan
  • Red-Crested Pochards
  • Coots
  • Cormarants
  • Grey Herons
Apart from these and many others we wondered around in the woodland. We saw all manner of things from a mole to a grass snake! With our photos we hope to provide a great reference to you on the wiki on what animals you find.

We were so good at identifying the animals that the rangers were impressed when someone showed us a photo of a grass snake and asked what it was. They thought i was an adder and told them how to disquingish the two.

So, we had a great day and the photos and many new articles will be hitting The British Wildlife Wiki soon!

New Wiki Articles

Over the next few days a lot of new wiki articles will be added by us on Fungi, Plants and Birds. These are some of the areas where the Wiki is lacking articles in comparison with the amount of species to the amount of pages that are on the wiki. We will be working with a number of new people in the coming months to supply the wiki with new information and a number of different photos that provide clear details for easy identification.

Youtube Special!

Next month we are going to be creating a special video to commemorate the fact that we will have 200 subscribers and 100,000 video views on YouTube. We are going to catch 150 fish at the local and 50 herps at the local glen.

Last year we caught 100 animals in a day and this time we aim to catch 200 animals in 2-3 consecutive days, depending on the weather.

If you have any other idea that would make the videos special please let us know by emailing, contactus@thewwc.org.
